A devastating fire destroyed the old Dial Park School site on Wednesday, 12 July. The fire started at around 4.30 pm and was officially closed down by the fire birgade as an incident 24 hours later. Sixty firefighters were involved and an incident unit deployed, not to mention the police and ambulance presence. The Parish Council would like to take this opportunity to thank the emergency services on behalf of the residents of Offerton for the prompt, efficient and professional way they dealt with the incident. This was not youngsters playing around with matches, but rather a determined criminal arson attack at the heart of a community that could have resulted in a far more serious outcome had the flames jumped to the local houses nearby.
We would like to urge anyone with any information to contact any of your Parish Councillors or the police in complete confidence. Although this time no one was injured, firefighters risked their lives searching the burning building for potential casualties. The Parish Council will also continue to press the new owners of the old St Stephen's school site, again in Offerton, to demolish what's left of that building to prevent any further incidents of this kind occuring.
